How Do I Get Treatment?
How Do I Get Treatment?
IF I DON'T HAVE INSURANCE?:
You have the option of paying the cash rate or if you are a Victim of Crime, you may qualify for free counseling under the California Victim Compensation Program.
IF I DON'T WANT TO USE MY INSURANCE?:
You have the option of paying the cash rate. For some this is preferable due to privacy concerns or other issues. Others may opt for this due to their individual circumstance. A superbill may be issued to you if you wish to bill your insurance yourself and received reimbursement.
IF I USE MY MEDICAL INSURANCE?:
Contact the phone number on the back of your insurance card to request authorization. Your insurance will be able to inform you of local providers available to you, your share of the cost of service, and how many sessions you are pre-authorized for. You can request a specific provider even if they are not on the list as often times they will contract directly. Be sure to receive an authorization number confirming this information. Some insurances do not cover counseling which is considered behavioral health, and others include it in your medical portion. You will be asked for the authorization number at your first appointment. You may be required to pay a co-pay for your visit and this will be due on the date of service.
IF MY EMPLOYER OFFERS AN EAP PROGRAM?:
EAP stands for Employee Assistance Program and is a wonderful free and confidential service that your employer provides to you. Ask your human resources person or manager if your company offers this service. If they do, contact your EAP via phone and request counseling services. You will receive a list of providers in your area that you can choose from. Your EAP will inform you of how many free sessions you are eligible to receive and within what time frame. For example, many EAPs will offer 5 free sessions within one calendar year. Your employer does not need to know why you are utilizing EAP.
